The hat shape is there to hold the spring concentric to the shock. If placed upside down, nothing would hold the spring concentric.

The hat shape is there to hold the spring concentric to the shock. If placed upside down, nothing would hold the spring concentric. That makes sense - thanks! Not only that, on the correct side only, there's a groove around the ID which captures the height adjusting ring so it can't pop out. |
