So....

The steering column on my '73 has play at the wheel. When this happened on my 911 I bought a plastic sleeve from Mitch that fit in and took care of the problem.

When I search for confirmation of what I need for the 914, I find conflicting info. Some say a similar sleeve, others say that only works on /6 cars, I need real bearings. Or maybe I need to remove the column entirely and rebuild it?

So can someone please confirm what I need to fix this in a 1973 914?

So the bearing is shot?

I couldn't find anything in the Pelican tech articles (except for the bush/sleeve replacement).

There's two bearings in the column, upper and lower. Pelican only lists the lower. I don't know if they're the same as the upper ... maybe a call to them will yield results (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
