The numbers are secondary to the driving experience of course, but just curious if anyone’s ever benchmark to their conversion against a stopwatch?

Where's that WRX Wagon today? What about that Camry 45 years from now? Will they be here? Will anyone care?
Reliability, hmm... it's a bone stock '78 911 SC motor that has never been torn down or rebuilt, no clue how many miles are on it, has had the snot beat out of it for the past 10+ years at the track, survived OLOA with no failures and ran multiple 13.9s at the strip. Let that sink in, all on a 41 year old motor... How many 40+ year old Toyotas and Subarus are out there that can do the same? ZFG here, I was only providing data... My 02' WRX wagon ran 13.20 with bolt ons (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) These days if it's not a sub 13 second car it's not considered fast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) These days if it's not a sub 13 second car it's not considered fast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) @chi-town Keeping up the tradition. These days if it's not a sub 13 second car it's not considered fast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Let's keep things in perspective. 2018 Toyota Camry XSE 1/4 Mile = 14.3 https://www.motortrend.com/cars/toyota/camr...st-test-review/ With fully funcitonal heat, A/C, modern crash safety, ABS, ESC, starts flawlessly at -20F and has virtually zero emissions as compared to a 914. Don't get me wrong, I love vintage cars but let's not kid ourselves, the good old days weren't so good. Modern cars do amazing things that we now take for granted. |

I absolutely love the sight, sound, and smell of a 911 six. You are correct in that it is a tough, yet iconic engine that will always have a place in history long after anyone cares about a Camry. My only point was that 0-60 or 1/4 mile times are not the measure of a 914's worth. Regardless of what powertrain is put in it, a 914 will not compete with modern high horsepower AWD cars. Especially EV's. I don't care what you do to a 914 you aren't going to get to a 10.72 1/4 mile time that can be driven by any warm body that happens to hold a drivers license. Zero talent required as compared to getting any vintage vehicle to this sort of 1/4 mile time. https://www.roadandtrack.com/motorsports/vi...dicrous-update/ |

We have a couple Model S sedans in the family. Also, are you speaking from experience or opinion? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Cracker |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Cracker @Cracker I agree with you that most EV's acceleration falls off as speeds increase and back EMF of an electric motor increases. Short of the drag strip, not many folks ever run EV's (or ICE for that matter)into that speed territory. However, my broader point spoken both from experience (having driven Tesla Model S P100D AWD in Ludicrous Mode) and from physics is that a 914 will have a very hard time getting enough tire grip, a wide enough rear tire, and enough weight transfer on launch on daily driveable, streetable 914 to run a 10.72 quarter mile. I'm open to being wrong on this if a timing slip can be produced. Modern AWD EV's and high HP AWD performance cars on the other hand, are now a one pedal affair that can be easily driven to what used to be unimaginable (for production vehicles) 1/4 mile times by anyone. The end game being a discussion that you can pour a whole lot of $$ into a 914 with a big motor but in the end, there is always the challenge of grounding all that power. Without AWD, a 914 will be disadvantaged to a modern vehicle with AWD. Just simple physics. Just to be clear, I'm not trashing anyone with big motor. If I hit the lottery I'd probably put a Singer/Ed Pink 4.0L in one just for giggles. However, I wouldn't be surprised when I lose a stop light drag race to a EV with no soul.
