0-60 for a 914/6 with 3.2? Options

Reliability, hmm... it's a bone stock '78 911 SC motor that has never been torn down or rebuilt, no clue how many miles are on it, has had the snot beat out of it for the past 10+ years at the track, survived OLOA with no failures and ran multiple 13.9s at the strip. Let that sink in, all on a 41 year old motor...

How many 40+ year old Toyotas and Subarus are out there that can do the same?

With fully funcitonal heat, A/C, modern crash safety, ABS, ESC, starts flawlessly at -20F and has virtually zero emissions as compared to a 914.

Don't get me wrong, I love vintage cars but let's not kid ourselves, the good old days weren't so good. Modern cars do amazing things that we now take for granted.

I apologize if I came off as bagging on your 1/4 mile time or your car. I absolutely love the sight, sound, and smell of a 911 six. You are correct in that it is a tough, yet iconic engine that will always have a place in history long after anyone cares about a Camry.

My only point was that 0-60 or 1/4 mile times are not the measure of a 914's worth. Regardless of what powertrain is put in it, a 914 will not compete with modern high horsepower AWD cars.

Especially EV's. I don't care what you do to a 914 you aren't going to get to a 10.72 1/4 mile time that can be driven by any warm body that happens to hold a drivers license. Zero talent required as compared to getting any vintage vehicle to this sort of 1/4 mile time.

No worries mate, I didn't take it as such. Even I said it was slow in my post.

I will say this, I was shocked that it ran in the 13's. I was expecting 15's.

Now for the kicker, we came in 3rd place overall at the drag strip out of ~70 competitors with OLOA that night. I broke out to a Viper by something like .01 seconds. Of all the events to podium on it was the drag race. Whoda thunk?

This is a great showing for the vintage 914/6 among a sea of more modern competiton.

Vipers are a great example of what I'm talking about. Lots of HP and lot's of drama to get a good launch on one (spoken from experience (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). Borderline scary to drive in the rain at elevated highway speeds (80-90 mph) due to the HUGE rear tires that are necessary to ground the power (well it tries to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) ). 1996 GTS Coupe would be on my lottery list too, but, at a 12.3 second 1/4 mile, it too would get beaten by a Tesla Model S P100D (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
