They're used by vintage racers. There are shops, mostly in the UK, that specialize in rebuilding these things. I believe there's one shop that's bought all the rights and tooling to the DFV, for example, and is THE place to go to get a DFV refurbished. Was highlighted in Racecar Engineering an issue or two ago, as I recall.

Still a pretty short fuse even on the detuned versions, though.
