Came cross this Mazda R-100 ad from 1971. Says it was faster to 60 than a 914! How dare they! And...how many R-100s are still being driven? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The first Mazda rotary motor seals would give out within a couple of years.
Later when they started using Teflon seals? You could pick up one of these cars up from the wrecking yard for next to nothing and have a low mileage rocket. I dated a girl in the 70’s whose dad was a Mazda mechanic. He rebuilt the motor in a R-100 with the new seals and it was a rocket. I remember in the late 70’s we were sitting in the R-100 in the driveway and he would rev it over 10k rpms in neutral and hold it there. He would say “try that in your car” |
