Hey Guys,
I'm about 6 months into searching and researching these cars(914) and from what I gather...they were designed for fuel injection and should have fuel injection to work properly. I've read the warnings of poor engine runnings and bad gas mileage and all...but I still see SO many great cars that I've passed up because they are carbed. Can someone give me a little context in how to think about this stuff? I'm not a gear head and don't have enough knowledge to know why and why not. Anybody? I know what George at Auto Atlanta thinks....what about the rest of you guys? I'm a newbie and need your sage advice. Thoughts guys? Thanks for any clarity or perspective. Jim |

my question is; when changing to carbs, what other mods should be done to get it to be optimum? What can I do to make my carbs work better with the car above and beyond proper tuning and fuel supply?

my question is; when changing to carbs, what other mods should be done to get it to be optimum? What can I do to make my carbs work better with the car above and beyond proper tuning and fuel supply? This defies common sense Carbs ( dual webbs ) by definition are performance oriented to say the least . Not made for idle or cold start in anyway. This must be understood before you make it even worse/better with port and polished heads , headers, Super unleaded gas etc. That all compliment a carbs performance while making cold start , idle still suffer. But fuel injection you get the best of both worlds as everthing that go's in and out of the engine is monitored and tweaked to keep air fuel ratio at peak and the injector pulse exceeded any carbs ability to squirt fuel Cost and complexity is my enemy so ill stick with carbs but i prefer the untamed behavior of carbs as the car is pre smog so why not . rant over |
