Hi All. As we dig deeper into our 914, we are finding a random assortment of nuts and bolts that I expect were incorporated into the car over the years. While I am not trying to source original hardware, I’d like to swap the odd ones out to be at more consistent (and, of course replacing any trashed/ rounded over/ damaged ones). Buying one or two at a time is going to get expensive and I cannot find a good reference for the right grade to use anyway (5.8, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9).
Is there a short list of the most common hardware found on our cars that I could use to start a collection of new ones? Thank You! |

Short answer is no list is available.
First, save all the old hardware, it can be refinished. Use Porsche PET, I like this one -https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/pet/porsche/914/570u/ to get the correct sizes. IIRC, some of the bolts that hold the front suspension to the car are grade 10 and the rest is grade 8 but I could be making that up. Belmetric is a great source to order a couple or a whole bunch. When I worked at the Porsche shop, we just ordered a box of every size nut and bolt from Wurth but that only makes sense if you are doing a bunch of cars. Better to just order what you need from Belmetric. They are very reasonable priced for hardware but you want to try to group your orders or shipping adds up quickly. |
