Removing sheet metal shroud to access fan on the front of the engine without removing the engine? Is it possible? Thanks

As said by others . . . drop the engine. If you're going to play with mid-engine cars, it is part of the game.
The beauty of mid-engine is how quickly the whole drivetrain can be removed and reinstalled as a unit. I've dropped engines in a dirt field with nothing more than a sheet of plywood and a rinky dink 2 ton K-mart jack. Even easier with a hoist. Even easier with a host + a table as Mark posted.
