We decided you california guys can't have all the winter fun, so a spur of the moment ramble took place on old route 66. 3 cars from OKC, and 3 cars from Tulsa met half way in Stroud, Ok. at the Rock Cafe. Ok, only six cars, but its better than 5! Stroud was a town before statehood (1907) that sold whiskey to the cowboys who came in from the ranches, and to the indians who snuck off the reservations. That stopped with statehood when alcohol was banned. In the 1950's the Rock Cafe was like the internet today. Truckers families would phone the cafe with messages, and the truckers would pick them up on their way thru, and leave messages for when they called back. Featured items on the menu are Buffalo, and Alligator burgers (I had the Gator). With no preplanned itnerary, we really did just "ramble" around town for the afternoon. It was beautiful day. 65 Degrees and partly cloudy. Rare day in January in Ok.

Here we are going around the lake. I'm tailgating Kevin trying to get him to close up the gap. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
Around the lake was the only curvy road anywhere near Stroud. 914RS - you're right. There are some great roads in the Lawton/Ft. Sill area and the Wichita Mountains are some of the oldest around. I race in the 12 Miles of Hell every year and I can attest that they are definitely "mountains". In the southeast we have the Quachita and Kiamichi mountains with hwy #1 making up the Talimnena Drive which runs for sixty miles along the ridge. Some of the best 914 blacktop in the country. Never pass up the opportunity to drive this road! But.... unfortunately, no curvie stuff in central Oklahoma other than on/off ramps (I know the best of them intimately).
