We decided you california guys can't have all the winter fun, so a spur of the moment ramble took place on old route 66. 3 cars from OKC, and 3 cars from Tulsa met half way in Stroud, Ok. at the Rock Cafe. Ok, only six cars, but its better than 5! Stroud was a town before statehood (1907) that sold whiskey to the cowboys who came in from the ranches, and to the indians who snuck off the reservations. That stopped with statehood when alcohol was banned. In the 1950's the Rock Cafe was like the internet today. Truckers families would phone the cafe with messages, and the truckers would pick them up on their way thru, and leave messages for when they called back. Featured items on the menu are Buffalo, and Alligator burgers (I had the Gator). With no preplanned itnerary, we really did just "ramble" around town for the afternoon. It was beautiful day. 65 Degrees and partly cloudy. Rare day in January in Ok.

Dinner was good...Polish sausage & cabbage... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/icon8.gif)
On the way back from Stroud, needed some gas so we stopped in at this brand new Texaco filling station - trustin' our car to the man who wears the star... It reminded me of this song: "Well, I was driving down the freeway When my car ran out of gas. Pulled over to the station But I was afraid to ask. The servicemen were yellow And the gasoline was green. Although I knew I could not I thought that I was gonna scream. That was on my last trip to tulsa Just before the snow. If you ever need a ride there, Be sure to let me know." Attached image(s) ![]() |
