Please help us to keep our VIN Database up to date!
You can add as many VIN numbers to our database as you like You can also search the database using various criteria like year, type and even color. The database can be found here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=membervins In order to add a new VIN, simply click on the "ADD a new VIN ..." link. The section "Your Own VINs:" will show all VIN numbers you entered. You can edit your VINs by clicking on the number itself. We'd like to record as much info about each car as possible The list includes: - VIN - Details: Parted out or crushed? Factory GT or m471? Sportomatic? - Engine Number - Chassis Number (Badge on drivers side front door jamb and stamped into rear trunk floor) - Build-Date (Sticker on drivers side rear door jamb) - Paintcode (Badge on drivers side front door jamb) - Current color if different from original - A picture link (Please do not link to eBay or craigslist pictures!) - Any comments or info on the car you'd like to share Parts cars If you have records of cars that you have come across in junkyards or cars that you parted out, please add those to the list as well and mark them "is she dead? crushed? cut up? rusted away?". http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=92742 Sample VIN record Below is a sample image of a filled in VIN record: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-179-1295549426_thumb.jpg) |

VIN R.I.P. (Rust in pieces)
I had the pleasure of meeting Frank Rattasid owner of 86 Auto Recyclers and Nineapart in Wroxeter, Ontario yesterday. Nineapart was dedicated to parting out only Porsche cars. Frank is retiring and winding down the business. He closed Nineapart in January and he is closing 86 Auto Recyclers at the end of this June. Frank has five 914s left in his 86 yard and he let me go through them for anything I may need (except for door handles and instruments/consoles). He charged me fair rates for what I took - it was not a fire sale ($450 for 2 targa tops, 4 popup motors, 2 turn light buckets and one rear glass). At the end of this week he said they will be crushed and sent out to be melted for scrap. The cars are not rebuildable. The rust is extreme on all of them, one has even folded in half. No interior parts worth salvaging. Most are stripped bare, no seats or interior panels. Only three have engines. I don't need anything from these cars - I didn't really need what I bought either, but I always wonder if there is something else that should be saved before they start a new life as a piece of re-bar in a bridge... Not much time left... Any suggestions if something should still be harvested for the future of the community before crushing? It is safe to consider these VINs gone. 4742907471 4732913913 4732904934 4742907764 4742900805 |
