What do y'all use for engine stands??? / bracket??? I like the one from VW alley but can't seem to find any source. Seen some nice ones for $600 bucks but that's not in the budget. The 2 eared ones don't seem they would provide enough support. Thanks for the help.

We have five of these and I just ordered 3 more. @mepstein I'm getting ready to drop the engine in my 930 and need a stand and yoke. What is it you're ordering? Also you mentioned on another thread about a HF lift to drop the engine with. I see a couple of motorcycle lifts. Is that what you were referring to? |

Also you mentioned on another thread about a HF lift to drop the engine with. I see a couple of motorcycle lifts. Is that what you were referring to? I get the yoke and clamp from Don at EBS/engine building supply. He’s out of them right now but should have more soon. I’m waiting on 3 sets. Harbor Freight 1,000lb lift cart. They’ve gotten more expensive over the years. I think it’s up to $350 now, not on sale, but absolutely the one to buy. We have four of them and they get used everyday. They also make a great portable work area. Drop the engine and trans onto the cart, pull the trans, lift the engine onto the engine stand. With a two post lift, hf lift table and the engine stand like I pictured, one person can do the drop in about an hour. Without the wide base legs to slide a lift table between, it would be a pain to mount or dismount an engine from a stand. You can use a strap and hang it from the lift arms but a wide, stable base is really nice for a heavy engine. |
