I remember this BAT auction. I thought $38.5 for this wasn't bad given the overall quality of the work. I don't think it looks bad for a period conversion you wouldn't do today. I bought a 72 911 project car years ago that had been "converted" to a G body car to mimic a 75 Carrera. Coincidentally also painted aubergine or purple. Another thing that would never be done today but wasn't uncommon back in the 80's when these cars weren't appreciated like they are today for their originality. It's not an $85k car though.
