So these are being made as a repop, and are designed to work with an SC rotor, why aren’t the calipers machined so that they work with the sc rotor (the consumable part) without modification? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) The non GT version of the 914-6 caliper that PMB sells (it doesn't have the spacer in the middle of the caliper halves) can work with the off the shelf non vented rotor that they also sell. So that would probably be the easy upgrade for most. For those that want a vented rotor though I think it's worth the extra effort to have the outside perimeter machined down to clear. FWIW there's an old thread on here that explains that the caliper can be moved slightly on the ears to clear the bigger diameter 911 rotor. Though I don't see how this is possible or good practice as you wouldn't want the caliper to ever shift or move. I suppose you could make offset spacer or something to lock it in the right spot. |

Most shops charge a pretty minimal fee to turn down the diameter of a rotor. I pay $20 to have it done. |
