Many of you may remember my 123 Distributor install that finally worked out.
(here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...370332&hl=) I now have a vacuum pump and multi meter - TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE. Unit is an 041 and has obviously been cracked open - before my time. It's marked with a Sharpie "74-76 2.0" which I believe is incorrect and should be for a 71-72 1.7. Maybe this accounts for the opening and potential adjustment. Currently holds 15in pretty much indefinitely and I get 93ohms between pins 7 and 15, and 344ohms between pins 8 and 10. All that seems pretty much right on - but it would NOT start after putting in the 123. Prior to the 123, it ran "fine" but then started running warm due to a distributor vacuum issue (more in another thread) Distributor was an 011 with a Pertronix Igniter II. Installed a "correct" 043 MPS and it fired right up and works great with the 123. Honestly - I'm just looking to acquire some database info for the World and then move this on, so if someone wants it, just yell. I have no idea what it's worth. |

@Superhawk996 - now THAT is curious...think someone was "rebuilding" these back in the day?
I don't think Brad Mayeur visits here much but I do know this motor was built by Brad before my ownership. Let me reach out to him to see if he recognizes anything. I think there was at least one owner in the chain that I'm missing so it's entirely possible it was one of them... |

@FlacaProductions I honestly don’t know what to think. I suspect that all the cross references and websites may not be completely correct. It very well could be that when they 1st started building 2.0L that initially intended 041’s to work for both 1.7 & 2.0l. Sort of like they did with the 73’ CHT? Switched plans at the last moment due to changing emissions regulations? Seems like a bit of a stretch. It also could be that maybe 041’s intended for 1.7’s were trying to be commonized to use the same spacer as the new 2.0L to keep MPS builds easier? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Or as you theorize - just someone tearing down 2.0L’s and then using in old 1.7L parts to jury rig them for 2.0L use. Probably one of the unsolvable mysteries of 50 year old parts. I’ll end up trying to bench calibrate and then maybe someday tune via wide band on 2.0L and see how it all works out. All I know is back in the day (late 80s) FI got torn of my car and my buddies cars at the first sign of trouble and all these MPS’s were either trashed ASAP and/or sometimes bartered for other parts when there was minimal information and minimal local parts support for these weird little cars. No telling what happened after that. Especially with these early MPS units held together by screws. It was a different world back then. |
