Drove my 914 to a PCA function yesterday morning, 93f and humid.
After driving on the interstate at 70-75mph for around 45 miles I exited and the motor died. I had enough momentum and coasted into a gas station/convenience store where I topped off the tank and tried to restart the car, no luck. The car would fire, run a few seconds and die then refused to re-start for another 10-15 minutes then the same scenario again. No tools to diagnose or repair. While waiting on AAA for three hours (another story) I would occasionally try to start the car with the same results. Today, car started normally, runs normally. 1974 L-jet, original three bung fuel pump, original location. 500 miles on new tank, sock, filter, ss lines. |

Checked fuel pressure 23 psi regulated, regulator plugged 43psi I assume the pump and regulator operating normally thats a bit out for an L jet. ones a bit high and ones a bit low. i'll dig up the proper test from the VW L jet trouble shoot i have. unplugging the vac hose is involved. you want to check two values. i'll post it when it dig it up. EDIT here is the test. from 914 factory manual. i worked out this is not the full test. its not testing the drop that should occur at idle or off throttle. you don't have engine running with this test. here is the more complete test from a VW Let trouble shoot guide i have. engine running. you are after finding those two values. the higher one quoted in bar is 35psi. the lower one (at idle) is around 28 psi. |
