Does anyone have a trick to help this job

Trying to put the springs back into the bottom of the shifter

First, always wear eye protection

Use a Phillips screwdriver on one end and hold the spring with a pair of vice grips. Get the spring set in place with the vice grips and then replace the screwdriver with the pin. Takes minutes when you get it right.
