Just noticed this from diyautotune.com

A MS PRO mini...

https://www.diyautotune.com/product/the-ms3...-mini-ecu-only/

That is a KICK ASS little ECU that has long term fuel trims, VVT support, E/85 support and a bunch of higher-level ECU functions for $600!

This should work great on any 4 cylinder.
On a 4 it is sequential fuel/COP spark.
You can run waste spark on a 6-8 and sequential on up to 8 injectors.

It's got abilities that a T4 will never need but at that price point I don't think it can be beat.

Had it been available when I bought my M3X P+P (MSM Miata) from them I would have gone Pro mini.

I'd have saved $500...

You don't need it on what you have yet...

Someday you will no longer be able to purchase parts for your original FI system and you will be FORCED to us this (or something similar).

The same company make a unit half the price of this one that better fits a T4...

It's called a "Microsquirt", and others have mentioned it.

This is a user adaptable ECU that has the ability to be easily adjusted (via a laptop) to pretty much whatever your heart desires.

It will work fine on a stock engine.

It will work fine on a MONSTER Raby motor.

The one I posted about (at $600) will run a 1500hp K24 or a lawnmower...

Whatever you can dream up this will run.

It is the difference between an old rotary phone (your original FI) and the very newest smartphone.

The coolest thing about it is the price.
20 years ago, nothing this powerful existed.
10 years ago, something with the same abilities was 3 grand plus.

The same company makes more powerful units as well.
The Hotrod unit "Megasquirt Pro" can track/log 100 different channels of data.
It's like having a complete tuning shop IN the car with you.

This same company makes dashboards that interface with the units and you can have your normal gauges and with a simple change you now have a full on "lap top" where the gauges were.

One nice thing. You can use the unit on your 914 and later remove it and use it on anything you care too.

This one is stupid powerful for 4-cylinder engine but still very capable for up to an 8-cylinder engine.
It can run a rotary engine as well.
The hotrod unit can run a 12-cylinder sequential fuel and spark.

It's the future...
For chump change! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ninja.gif)

Okay, so these are stupid questions perhaps. What is this, why would I want to use this, & how would I use this on a perfectly running stock 1.7?

Sorry to keep patting myself on the back...but that's exactly my mindset as I developed my Microsquirt system on the D-Jet. Rather than repost that reasoning here...
