Hi all,

I have finally started the resortation of my poor 914. I'm sure you are all aware of the situation. The more I look the more work I find. Comes with the territory.

I have the car down to a bare shell now and my welder will come by for a look sometime soon. I see a fair load of work but he's not easily phased out. I have to but only admire his enthusiasm.

The car is frankenstein. Under that coat of resale Red i found, yellow doors, silver frunk, black trunk.

However the wiring. I was wondering if the harness from 1970 IE was any different to the 1971 or 1972. Mainly I can get hold of a 1972 one in good condition as mine is for simpler words shot.

Does anyone have any literature on this and if it can be made to work. The PO cabled in the appearance package and it's terrible. The car was converted to drive on 2 dellortos and they are full of crust on my workbench. Not dust or dirt... Crust. Solid hard crust.

So this also means that the PO rewired the engine to the fuse box too and it's horrible.
And if you've previously searched wiring harness then it's cost will leave you sobbing for years.
Cheers
Shaun

Not sure what you mean by "1970 IE" but generally speaking the chassis harnesses are not easily interchangeable. Here is my guide to the harness differences:

https://bowlsby.net/914/WiringHarnesses/doc...nessIDGuide.pdf

Recommended to find exactly the same harness that is correct for your car. The harness from the 1970-early 1971 is identical (12 pin connector at steering column), the later 1971 and 1972 are very different from the 1970.

That said, anything can be changed. If you select a different harness be prepared to change other things - switches, steering column, gauges etc. Study my chart for the differences between the model years.

New chassis harnesses are available but expensive, these are very complicated harnesses. See Kroon harness.

Original harnesses may need significant repairs. You would be lucky to find one in good enough condition ready to install.
