I have a complete running 99 Boxster 5spd with a quarter million miles on it.

It's roachy enough to turn into an "Organ Donor".

I'm a sucker for 4 valve, modern digital FI, COP, and modern accessories.

I look at the Boxster and think "Wonder if I can fit that in the 914?".

I think it might be possible.

After conversion I would most likely replace it with a Boxster S or maybe even a 911 engine.

The drive package I'd rather use is a Boxster/Cayman S with the six speed but I own the 2.5L 5 speed now.

There is a good chance I can part the 986 out and make money as it came with a factory hardtop. I want to "vulture" the calipers anyway.

Are the water-cooled sixes dimensionally identical externally?

Have others tried before?

I did find this. At least one has been done!

Keep in mind that '97-'99 Boxsters are the donor cars for the Spec Boxster (SPB) racing class. Those early boxsters are actually going up a little in value, as more people look to get into the class or look for more spare parts (engine & trans). So, you may want to consider selling your car as a race donor, and get a newer (and potentially cheaper) boxster to use as an engine donor.

OUTSTANDING!
You just "Bitch-Slapped" the Ninja!
This is the type of info I needed.

Dad bought this POS from the original owner. He lives here in Granbury, and he drove it to Dallas every day. It's COMPLETELY stock. All of the work was done by Autobahn (the local P dealer).
Paints GONE, both bumper covers show evidence of minor collisions but...

It's straight as an arrow, no rust at all. The underside of the car looks better than the top. It's NEVER been in a serious accident. The interior is trashed...
It's never been high centered!
It doesn't even have "jack" marks on the bottom.

This thing is EITHER an organ donor OR it would make a killer chassis to build a track car off of!

I'd RATHER start with an S, and I don't need a straight one...
Wadded up would work fine!

I didn't even think "Don't be stupid, someone might want the pup as a track car".

Thank you for the head up @BillC

Oh, Dad paid $850 for it as a "not run in 5 years car".
I resurrected it and it's all there. I've personally driven it in all 5 gears.
I'd guess the hard top is worth $850!
