I’ve been chasing a bad miss on my 1975 914 for some time and thought it might be my Pertronix Ignitor ignition unit. When I tried to replace it the new one didn’t fit. So, went back to points and condenser. I may have the wrong points and condenser, because it wouldn’t start..

After some detective work I think a previous owner installed a distributor out of a 1975-1976 VW bus! The reason I think this is true is because when I google my current Bosch Distributor number, 231 176 048 I’m getting an eBay listing for a reconditioned VW bus distributor.

My question is: is there a cross reference where I could put in Bosch Distributor #231 176 048 and find what vehicles this was put in so I can get the right points and condenser?

Long term, I will replace this distributor with a correct Porsche 914 one, but I want to get back on the road now and enjoy the beautiful Pacific NW winter weather (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Thx, PDXBob

I'd put the original Petronix stuff back in, get it running, and isolate the miss.

These ignition threads are BAD about people worrying about just what the exact correct parts are and other non-diagnostic approaches to what should be a simple issue.

I would say the 123 stuff is the way most folks should lean if they had to spend money.

But, if it ran before, it should run again on the original set up!
