Greg i would love to hear your recommendations for improvements. I am still learning the car. I didn't get deep into the car, it was mostly a peripheral look-see. But an 8-gallon cell may not really be enough but it's worth a try depending on how long your local track sessions are. The cell would need to be taken apart and cleaned up, and the bladder checked really closely (SCCA no longer requires replacements by date). Foam would need to be cleaned out and replaced and maybe install a Hollo Hydromat pickup for that small cell size. I think it has a Butler seat, yeah? I don't mind those but check it out carefully, and how it's mounted. You'll need new harnesses, and I think it needs a window net? For the cage, find a local SCCA or PCA tech inspector that can give it a close look to ensure it meets current specs. Chris built that cage in 2001 so I trust the workmanship sight-unseen but there's been some regs changes in SCCA, like dual doors bars both sides, that it may have missed. If you plan to run it top off, sit in it with the seat config and see if you meet the 2" "broomstick test". Mine, also built by Chris in 1999, did not because it was always intended to run top on (yup, orgs consider your car a closed top car with that plastic roof in place, waiving the broomstick requirement). To resolve that on mine, I cut the headrest off the Butler seat and mounted it to the floor as far back as possible and tilted it back so I'm more reclined, then remounted the headrest in an appropriate place on brackets to the rollcage. Now I can run it top on or off (with arm restraints). All fuel lines cleaned out, of course. Carbs cleaned and rebuilt. Pull the exhaust and make sure no critters decided to make it a home (has it been run lately?) Dampers removed and probably rebuilt. Suspension full inspection nut and bolt. Brakes full inspection and flush. I'd just go through the whole thing and look for stuff that you don't like, keepin in mind that it's your ass out there you're trying to protect. |
