Hi Guys,
The devastation of the fires in LA is unimaginable. So many people have lost everything and times like these really hammer home what's important in life...family, friends, pets and health. Of course, our cars add a lot of joy to our lives as well and I fear that many prized vehicles will be lost. I think I speak for everyone when I say "we're here for you". Please post and let us know if there's anything this community can do to help. Let's keep our LA friends in our prayers. |

We're in the SE corner of Brentwood literally blocks from evacuation zones. Our radar is up and we're anticipating an evacuation- eventually. The wind keeps shifting.
I'm a freelance cameraman and work frequently for 60 Minutes but haven't done a story like this in my backyard before. I've seen more than my share of devastation and covered chaos like this all over the world but the scale of this in a modern urban setting is stunning. We were out yesterday in Malibu and Altadena and it's just never-ending destruction. Given the topic of this forum and my interest in cars, some things stick out to me when on shoots like this. It doesn't diminish the "real" losses so many have suffered. The 911 is (was?) along PCH near Big Rock Beach and was most likely in the garage of a ocean-front home. This particular 911 has been posted a lot on social media but these photos are mine. I looked for a VIN without luck - it's obliterated. The what-I-believe-to-be Ferrari (308?) was near the Palisades Recreation Center as is the Mini. The heat that melted the Mini was from across the street...which tells you how hot things got. I've lived here 15 years - not very long in comparison to many - but I know my area pretty well. The devastation I've seen makes it really hard to get your bearings given the new reality of no familiar landmarks. It's simply amazing. Check out the work of an amazing team this Sunday on 60 Minutes... |
