I don't trust "re-sellers" that have an automotive re-sale business at all.
I worked for a guy once that wanted to corner the Z-car market (Like the Corvette guys do). He had 70+ late model cars (Z32s 90 and up). After I was hired, I went through them... I reported he had 30+ cars that were pieced together out of other cars and were NOT worth selling. Complete roaches! He had 20 cars that were decent and priced properly. And he had 20 "masterpieces" that he should INCREASE the prices on... He corrected my thought processes in a single sentence. He said, "My job is to put butts in seats, everything else is what lawyers are for." He went on to say the first 30 on my list were the cheapest cars and that was what really sold. They represented 70% of his profit margin. He also said, those came through the auction and were going to be sold in the metroplex. He decided that HE was going to be "that guy". The nice cars, that were already expensive, sold slowest and he was planning on REDUCING their prices! He was ALL about how quickly his stock sold and didn't give a rat's ass about the quality of the cars. Sadly, this created a "conflict of interest" for me as I was the person that had to deal with the trash cars that the new buyers complained about. The worst part about this job was he treated his employees like Royalty. He was one of the very best bosses I ever had... Always took my advice, never argued, but was totally predatory regarding his customers. He sold the Z-car lot off and BEGGED me to stay with him as his "personal" technician to go to auctions with him when buying stuff and service his families stuff. This guy OWNED 8 lanes of the Dallas auto auction and was the wealthiest guy I ever worked for. He paid me big bucks... A wealthy reseller is NOT where you want to find your car! |
