Has anyone used a 89-98 911 3.6L case as the foundation for a 914 flat 6 build?

If you can, you are better off buying a complete core motor than trying to buy all the parts for an engine build individually. By the time you buy all the little nuts, bolts and screws, you spend way more money than you would if you just bought a used engine and rebuilt it.
Yes, 3.6 cases are available, but you have to have the crank, the rods the cylinders, the pistons, the heads, the cam carriers, the cam boxes the cams, the rocker arms, the intermediate shaft, the oil pump, the valve covers... the list goes on. I got a relatively cheap 3.6 core that had an engine fire. Even then, I spent way too much getting all the fuel injection pieces to make it work. Now I am selling all of that. And with a 3.6, you have to alter the engine tin for it to fit. The 3.2 will fit with no alterations to the tin. I actually researched the idea of back dating the timing boxes on the 3.6 to use the 3.2 setup just so the engine tin would fit the front of the motor. And I looked at backdating the engine case to fit a engine mounted oil cooler too. It was easier to fabricate engine tin to fit the 3.6. I would suggest sitting down and making a pros and cons list of a 3.2 vs a 3.6 engine. Both are available out there used with all the fuel injection. And don't forget the 901 transmission is not really good with a 3.6 engine. Yes the 901 will work. But it is really not designed for the horsepower and torque of a 3.6. I a |
