It looks like AA Performance in Covina might have acquired the old GEX company that built air cooled engines. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think GEX had a great reputation. My question is, … can anybody confirm this acquisition and has there been any quality control upgrades on the engine building side of things?

@Craigers17 i may be a canary in the coalmine here then. i have never worked w them nor do i know that much about them. AA performance or AApistons seems to have a good relationship with the bug and bus rebuilt engine community. they had a booth at sema which im bummed i didnt check out, i might have met some of the people which would be nice.
the rebuild i am planning would come out to about 9k which would include webers instead of FI and a displacement bump 2257.

from what i gather they are just using the GEX name as a branding thing...if it has a bad reputation god only knows why.

i checked out a few youtube feeds from some of the guys that work there and they are def air cooled fanboys. good sign imo. however some of them do not like working on type 4's.
