So my 2.0 has had a hard life, several owners, many changes. Repaired or replaced body panels, repainting, making it as unoriginal as possible. Right now, everything is black, murdered out before that was cool.
Controversy begins here... I don't like original side mirrors. Don't like the chrome, the shape, anything about them. The car came with baby tornado mirrors which elicit disdain among most of the community which I don't understand. I am not a huge fan of them, but they are installed, and badly at that. So I was thinking of a change but not sure what alternatives exist that are not the two already mentioned. Is it either or? One issue I have with the current setup is that they just used sheet metal screws through the door skin to attach the tornado mirrors. They get loose all the time and bounce around, that is a negative. I looked inside and it appears the original threaded metal mounts are intact but they might have had the top of the hole worked or covered. So if I went back to stock I would have to fill the sheet metal screws that would probably be visible and then drill the original holes out. I am trying to balance practicality with desire at this point. This car is not worth lots of metal work and door painting at this point. Should I leave it as is and move on to other items? Tons on the work list. I am on the doors now so it is in scope. |

I think 911 flag mirror don't look bad on the right car. Plentiful and not that expensive. There are post on how to install them on a 914.
![]() I have a loose set if you want to see them up close. john |
