Hey Ron, I think the long sender probably works best in conjunction with the original sheet-metal "taco plate".. if you look at it, where the sender is mounted it protrudes downward and at an angle towards the edge (for ground clearance (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) or whatever) - which is a nod to it needing a long sender.
On the other hand, there are new aftermarket, updated cast aluminum (maybe even billet) "taco plates" that take the sender in a vertical manner at the center - therefore not needing the extra length of the original sender. |
