Try tapping (TAPPING) with a hammer, but prying isn't a good idea. Scoring the gasket surface is very bad, and breaking the cover would suck. Hopefully, some previous idiot didn't use silicone goop or whatever to seal it. There's supposed to be a thin gasket there doing all of the sealing, dry.
