I've used bolts to replace mine since the stay that's attached to the door has had its hole enlarged over the years by use. I had to file out the holes on the door jam to fit the new bolt but it works nicely. One must use a long enough bolt such that the shank of the bolt is the only piece needed. I have cut off the threads of the bolt and filed the cut off to bevel the edges for easy insertion. Sorry, no pics, I'm at work.
