Doing a quick check to see if this sounds like a good deal....

My race trailer is an open Texas Bragg with a tire carrier up front...lightweight, low and works great....except that I'm a lazy bastard and I don't want to load and unload all of my support equipment everytime I go racing.

I have found a 20' enclosed trailer, dual axle, with a beaver tail and cabinets for ~$3.5K to $4K (I'm still negotiating price). The trailer is in great shape.

My question:

Is this a good price....it seems to be...but just checking....

Bill,

It's important to find a trailer that fits your space needs, but don't forget your towing needs.

Weight and a flat front trailer will cost you big time. My buddy, who races a 911 in historics, had a totally enclosed trailer that was just wonderful from the viewpoint of space. It had all the cabinets, etc. and was a great place to put stuff and organize racing gear.

Unfortunately it had a flat front and was heavy so his tow vehicle got about 10mph, or less, regardless of where he went.

If you have a turbo Ford or Chevy the weight and mileage thing won't be such a critical issue, but if remember right you have a burb like mine (454) so mileage and towing weight will be an issue.

A heavy trailer will start getting to you after you start dragging it all over the country. The weight and mileage thing will end up being a huge factor long after the idea of having all that space has evaporated.

My next tow vehicle is going to be a big Ford or Chevy diesel with gobs of power and good mileage.

And the ideal trailer would break wind, not hold it back.
