If one wanted to make new heads (pick one of the following, mabey a combination of two or more (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )
billet new cast 2 valve 3 valve 4 valve watercooled aircooled oil-cooled hemi-head twin-plug single plug What "modern" engine would make a good "pattern" to copy for combustion chamber design?? Ideally, keeping the same basic intake and exhaust configurations would be nice....larger diameters or the location could be changed a little, but I'd want to keep them as close to stock locations as possible Does any manufacture make a decent modern motor with flat top or slightly dished pistons similar to those on Type IV motors? |

Hummm....The "latest & greatest" thinking that I have read is the pentroof head. Cosworth came up with it some time back. 4 valve with 38 deg included angle twixt the int & exh side. F1 engine builders are not eager to share their newest stuff, so that's bout all I know. The shallow chamber gives high compression
with a low piston dome.....better flame propagation. You can bet your ass that they already have something better or they wouldn't let this out. 4 valbes & 2 cams per bank. How they get good port angle is beyond me. Water cooled, of course. Nobody was able to make a good 4 valbe air cooled head.....and many tried, I understand. |
