Does the air filter have to be removed in order to adjust the idle screw? I have the Chilton's manual but it isnt much help. I just replaced some of the vacuum lines and the air filter was a pain in the a$$ to get back on correctly and I dont want to yank that thing off again if i dont have to.

i also have another question about the vacuum diagram on pelican, the air filter (dotted line) seems to be facing towards the battery, which is the wrong way (or at least the opposite of mine)?

sorry if these questions have been covered, i wasnt having any luck with a search.

Is this for your 1971, with an oil bath filter?

I only ask because there were 2 filter set ups available for the 1.7 motors over the years.

but still...

yes the intake for the filter points towards the regulator (away from the batter)

and also, it is easier to get to the idle screw with the filter off.
after you know clearly where it is, you may be able to reach under there a bit without removing the filter... but its tricky and usually requires removing the oil bath filter for visual access.
