I recently operated a Karmann Ghia w/ one. My first time w/ a sporto. I was at my friends' body shop & they were clueless. I had to tell them what it was & how to operate it. I did not know that Ghias also had them until I saw it.

I did not know that Ghias also had them until I saw it. my first beetle, a '72 1302 S, had the sport-o-matic. they're fun to drive. and yes, if you touch the shift lever while driving (resting your hand on it), chances are it'll go into neutral ...
