After the Autocross this past saturday I was merging onto the 91 West and hit a friggin deep pothole on the passenger's side. What happened? I guess it shook violently enough to bust two bolts fron my front swaybar mount on the body. Holy crap! That would explain the thunk I hear every time I hit a bump.
This was after dropping the front end about ½" and moving the droplinks inward about 1½" inward on stiffness. The car handled great until this happened! |

And... get this... A busted engine mount could lead to some serious issues. Driving home today I had an epiphany as 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th were somehow missing from my shift pattern. You should not track your car at all with a busted engine mount. I'm running the solid trans mounts in the rear, got a pair of 911 engine mounts to replace them with which I'll be doing later this evening. Observe:
It seems even my little 1.8 has enough torque to bust shit loose. V8 in disguise? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif) Was doing burnouts in L.A. last month and popped an engine mount. I plan on going with solid engine-to-bar mounts, then running 911 sport engine mounts from the engine bar to the body (a-la early method). That may take time, I have a pair of good stock 914 engine mounts that should go in tomorrow. |
