My first 911 was a '70 911E Sporto.
Huge fun to autocross. Lotsa fun on the street. The mere touch of the hand on the shifter actuates the hydraulic clutch and places it in neutral. You do not hand rest on the shifter! Remember, Porsche actually raced prototypes with this configuration, at least once at Le Mans. Just never caught on, though it was rock solid & not finicky. I'd love to have one again. Pat |

Remember, Porsche actually raced prototypes with this configuration, at least once at Le Mans. I didn't hear about Le Mans, but Porsche raced and won the 1967 Marathon de la Route (84h race at the old Nürburgring) with a 911 R Sportomatic. Drivers were Hans Hermann, Jochen Neerpasch and Vic Elford. 3 yrs later they won the same race (2 hrs more though) with the 3 famous 914-6 GTs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wavey.gif) Gustl Attached image(s) |
