I pulled the trigger on a set of SSI heat exchangers from SMC (with corresponding early 2.0 hanger bracket). Should be a nice upgrade from my stock 1975 exchangers with the combined outlets. So now I am in the hunt for a compatible 2.0 muffler (1974 and earlier).
I’m excited to be getting rid of the rusted 4 tip Monza muffler that came with the car and considering a few options. 1. Dansk factory replacement hotdog muffler. Possibly the quietest option and by some accounts the best performance since it is how the car was engineered by Porsche. However not stainless - although the car is fully garaged and typically driven in fair conditions so may be less of a concern. Sounded great in a video posted by user CCE from Mexico. 2. Mittlemotor. Not much more expensive than the Dansk at SMC and full stainless (and 15% off thru April 5th). Reviews here on the world were limited, but positive. 3. Would love to have gotten one of Ben’s mufflers. Looks like a similar product was available from 914rubber last year but no longer on the website. I have inquired about upcoming availability. As a side note, Ben seems to recommend factory replacement in recent threads on the topic which has me thinking about the factory Dansk… Scart sounds nice but very expensive. Would also consider the tangerine muffler made for heat exchangers if anyone has experience or a recommendation there. A little more spendy, but worth it for the value of the product in terms of quality and performance. I have not seen much on sound level or exhaust note on this. Overall priorities: Reduced noise level (compared to the Monza) Factory or better performance Nice exhaust note Quality construction and value for the $$$ I really appreciate all the previous topics here on 914world that helped me understand the various heat exchangers and mufflers and figure out what was on my car and where to go next! |
