Hi Everyone,
I am selling my project that I am abandoning due to myriad life and space issues. The car was a 1974 2.0 I bought several years ago to drive for a while then convert to a six. It was a good looking nice driving car, but I discovered hidden rust in the longs and floor so I took it off the road to restore. I have all the parts from the original 914-4 except things like the carpet and some other bits that get messed up when you pull them off. I sold the original 2.0 4cyl engine and trans and the original 4-bolt Fuchs and then began tearing everything apart. After sandblasting revealed way more damage, I spent a few years sourcing used parts, doors, and things, and a substantial amount of new repro sheet metal. The tub needs additional sheet metal work but everything is there to do it except a rear fender and sail. You could go the find-another-rolling-chassis direction or continue the rebuild of this tub. The advantage of this tub is you can see exactly what is needed, but it is a bit of work. Please take a look at the Tub photos in the folder in the photos link for more info. The chassis is 95% sandblasted. The mobile sandblaster guy ran out of sand due to the amount of bondo that was on the tub, so some things like the inside of the front trunk are not completely bare. The tub has been Ospho-ed twice since then, that is the white streaks you see everywhere. The inner longs are coated with Eastwood Internal Frame Coating. The tub sits on a jig I made out of Interlake pallet rack beams and aligns closely to factory specs. The Jig is mounted on a nice Titan Rotisserie that is included in the package. The P.O.’s “restoration” involved gallons of bondo and undercoating. My mission was to properly repair the longs and floor and make the car stiffer and as light as possible. I rebuilt the hell-hole area an inner engine compartment with 20ga steel and a repro panel from Auto Atlanta. Some portions of the longs have been double-skinned in places for extra strength. I was then going to install the Restoration Designs outer long sheet metal, and then install the Brad Mayeur kit over it for maximum stiffness. I thought the entire Maddog inner long kit would be overkill and add too much weight so I only have the firewall piece to reinforce the inner part. My total rough estimate of the street value of parts is just over $30k, more if you count parts like the tub, doors, and other sheet metal that I just counted as $0 because they may be superfluous but I do not want to sell them individually. I am looking for $20k for everything unless I get a better offer. That is essentially what the motor/trans/oil and exhaust parts are worth. I do not want to split this up, I need it all gone. I cannot deliver, but if you are local to So Cal there are options. Any comments on parts are welcome. Please post them in the garage post "Giving Up" to keep this thread clean (I think that is in the rules for classifieds) Here is the list of primary parts with my estimated street prices if purchased separately. You will find photos of most of them in the photo link here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/o5aduot11lyb...kc2uc8&dl=0 (new) is a new part, some sheet metal has been trimmed to fit (rest) means restored like a lot of the Bruce Stone restored/replated stuff (used) is used in good condition.
