CIS is one convoluted mo fo and the SC exhaust was the same. With Webers, headers and a good muffler, 200 hp is well within reach.
I had 9.7:1 Shasta pistons (JE forgings)in my first 2.7L. There was enough cold wall clearance to throw a cat thru....... .004+. They rattled like hell when cold. I think the rings never did seat properly. I pulled it doen after 7 years after a leak down test when WHOOSH. The pistons were still in nice shape but the cly walls were scored......then one of them "deals" on Pelican popped up. I had a set of 10;5:1 Mahle P/Cs within 15 minutes of their posting. Cold wall clearance is .0015 and they came with Gotez rings......not cheep, but by God does it run .....on race gas. A couple pics. The Shastas after tear down & some cleanig & the Mahle pistons. The Shastas are prettier. Attached thumbnail(s) Attached image(s) |

Can't afford that dizzy, ya bastard, would be able to do a twin plug cheaper the other way. I've never done MS as well but I've done a couple of type fours on SDS, it just uses GM coils. Works real good. We'll see. I have a bit of time to decide on 200 vs 250hp and whether a 901 can handle it...or explode. 200hp is OK I guess. It would be the smart thing with a 901 I still have a local guru deal on a regrind cam for the carbs. He's suppose to know his stuff. Don't really want to mess with used CIS. Sorry i didn't mean that you should twin plug, just an example of slippery slope. dont worry about the 901 box with the 3.0 it will be fine, but here is the slippery slope again it would be better with LSD and beefed intermediate plate. Just took my 3.0 914-6 out, man your gonna have a blast when you get it back together, this car is so fast and fun...
As for the distributor, give steve at rennsport a call I think he did mine for around 300 and he really knows his stuff. He also helped me with my initial carb jettings. As for a dyno I talked to a guy with a 78 3.0 with 46mm carbs and headers (otherwise stock) and he claimed to dyno his motor at 240hp at the flywheel... Talk to steve about running a 9.7:1cr on pump gas, typically you can do it, but he might want to set your total advance a little lower. on normal water cooled engines you can go up to around 10:1 on 91 octane... |

I ran pump gas with the 9.7:1 Shastas. As the man said, you have to watch your advance to be safe.
Talking to Mr. Weiner is one of the best things a man can do. He is *very* helpful and is a gentleman to boot. A PM on Pelican will get a response. |

Is this piece of shite any good? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
What's it worth? I've seen the JE's I think from a reputable dealer they're about $1200 with rings.... I shouldn't even be looking at this crap (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif) Attached thumbnail(s) |

Sure, ya got 2mm of base gaskets. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Actually, I told that Mahle Does not consider deck height when computing compression so they'er actually .5 less than advertised......so 1 mm of base gasket *might* get you there. Here's what the dome on my 10.4:1s look like....less than the Mt. Everest on those. The RSR had a different size combustion chamber than the SC....smaller by 13ccs. Talk to Mr. Weiner, I'm out of my depth. Attached thumbnail(s) |

I assume he stuck you for +dollars for the pistons & cams. Was the EBS work described accomplished? I still don't like them circlips. They go in OK, but gettin' them out is a bitch....Porsche prolly makes a special tool for them. I like the ones with the hook on the end.
As for the slope, enjoy the wind in your hair.....if ya have any left. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

No cams, he never got that far into the project, I get the stock ones.
Pistons were not cheap, but I still got a deal. Only little more than JE's but the EBS work would need doing. I'm going to spec them out first. I bought them, but I'm not married to the pistons, I don't think I'd lose any if I ended up selling them. I bet someone would make me a bitchin deal for some JE's and studs. We'll see what happens, I'm still in the planning stages. I have just a bit of research to do. I will have to decide if I want to play or trade down. So far all I've done is traded my junk for this junk, no "real" cash has been spent. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
