new tire/wheel combination installed. It is amazing to me how just changing the tires/wheels makes the car look much sharper.... I will be getting 10-15mm of spacers for the rear and some 80mm studs.... I have tons of room....~1.75 inches from tires to fender lip and I want to fill it out a bit more. bottom of motor and tranny are CLEAN! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) things are starting to move along... also installed the twin pipe stock muffler....looks nice Dan - CLEEEEEN!!!! - what did you use to clean the engine & transaxle?? ... I really need to do mine, but don't want to use anything so harsh that it eats the alloy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

Tom,
the motor and tranny were completely rebuilt before the body/paint work started, they were both cleaned at that time.. notice how dry the bottom of the motor is...? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) on another note....just sent a PM to Mikey914 to order up just about all new rubber, and also one to Morph for carpet kit and dash vinyl....(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) and the wheels look even better than I had hoped for on the white... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) So did they soda blast the case or what, or do you know? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ... if it was McMark, then he probably soda blasted the case while it was apart, from what I've seen him do on other 914s. Better hope those seals are all tight so she stays oil free & that sparkly! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ... mine looked that nice after the 83 rebuild, before driving 2 years then being put up on blocks in my garage for 25 years! Now the lightweight 5-30 "storage" oil in there has a steady drip from probably several places. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

the person that built the motor and tranny has been doing Porsche repair for nearly 30 years now...
He builds some very nice dry motors.... He was taught by the person that helped me build this motor...and after 3 years of abuse it was dry as a bone... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Attached image(s) |

So did they soda blast the case or what, or do you know? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) no, he has a big industrial grade washing machine (automatic parts washer) after disassembly the case goes in for a full wash....comes out nice and clean. Dan, I have been looking for spacers but have only found 1/4 inch. Where did you find the 10-15 mm ones? Al. BTW your wheels look great. Always been partial to full polish myself.

CIP1.com has them listed but they are out of stock..
They have 7mm in stock for $18 each. I may have to stack them...(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) or have some milled at a machine shop....that sounds too much like $$$ to me though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

I wonder if my wife would let me get one of those, if I just tell her it's an extra washing machine? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) Both motor & car look stunning, as well as wheels - even though I'm more of an OE finish guy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Got it from a good friend...have no idea where he got it, but it is very near if not a perfect match for the factory vinyl...very small pebbled surface...should look great. Looks just like the original material that is still on the top of the targa bar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

more baby steps...since we are waiting on rubber items I just ordered from Mikey914, started doing some other stuff.
outside door handles installed right and left outside mirrors installed studs installed on front hubs and alloy lug nuts bead blasted and installed. Rears will be done when I get the spacers. Front turn signals installed and working properly (with new lenses) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Rear tail lights installed and working properly extended the pipes on the twin pipe muffler....sounds much better now...just need to get the SS 2" pieces to slide over for cosmetics now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) They were a bit too short...now they are about 14" long in all. also installed the little round vents for the flow thru ventilation in the door jams. yes, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) that is for sure.
It will change a bit soon when the Porsche negative graphic goes on the sides. I just wish I could speed up the process a bit, but couldn't order some stuff until the reassembly began...now just waiting on some pieces to get really cracking on it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

It's looking like I HOPE my older sibling will look when I get it done, but going OE L80E Light Ivory on mine - inspirational project for keeping me motivated! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Hey Dan, if you converted a stock Banana muffler for that twin pipe set-up on there, did you have it flow mapped first by a custom header/exhaust shop to revise the internal baffles/etc. so it flows as well or better than stock? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) .... or did you just extend the tailpipes inside to make it direct flow capture on where the L&R exhaust tubes attach for essentially a straight pipe set-up bypassing the muffler? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ... or can you say due to, well you know DMV/CHP/etc.!!?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) PS - seeing those full polish Fuchs 2L's on your white 914 is almost enough to pull me over to "the dark side" of non-OE/non-CW finish for mine!
