(IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) As always, that is schweet Dan! What did you use to paint the bumpers? Thanks basically a trim matte or satin black with a plasticizer mixed in. Came out better than I had expected. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Just enough difference in the appearance to distinguish between the bumpers and the gloss black valences and rockers. Cell phone pics don't do it justice....tomorrow I will take some better pics with the good camera. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Dan, that is looking sooooo good! I'm almost done doing a SSI backdate on mine. Been spending time painting all the heater tin stuff ect. I'm hoping to have mine back down tomorrow. I could start it now, but I still have....4 pieces left to install and the shift bar. That's it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) yep, when I got all my backdate exhaust and heater parts I bead blasted them and then put a nice coat of 500* flat dark grey on it all. Should hold up nicely. You should like the backdated exhaust....what type of muffler are you planning on running with the SSIs? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

I want to pass on a tip to Dan and all others with polished wheels or anything else in polished aluminum. There is a product called S100 corrosion protectant, that when applied will give you long term protection to the surface. When you buy it look for the spec sheet, you will be impressed. Not really a secret but we have been using it for years. I usually apply it before delivery to the customer so all that is needed is car wash soap and water to maintain that shine. Al Weidman PS: Your worst enemy is brake dust that sits and gets wet. Go here: http://www.s100.com/s100_cp.htm I've been away for awhile. If you google 16300A, several sources will come up. We get ours from a local Harley dealer. Al. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif) |

car is now a driver...
did some little things today. cleaned up dash face and installed new stereo head unit. tomorrow the speakers and all the wiring will be done. center console, none of the gauges were working so had to do a little wiring today. Had to run 12V switched, 12V constant, ground and temp sensor wiring from the tunnel to the gauges... but they all work now with lighting and everything (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) even the clock is keeping good time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif) Some DPO had all the lighting done, but no power to the gauges... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) couple of shots of car cleaned up a bit and in the garage. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Dan - does it have the electric power antenna for the radio? ... &/or did it originally have a power one? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I ask because I seem to recall dr914/George posting once that they put the power antenna on the pass. fender & the manual ones on the driver fender (mine is latter). Looking great & I'll bet she's loads of fun to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) now! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I had considered a power antenna but for now just a new fully retractable manual unit.
Car had no antenna before the restoration. had a good time driving around today. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It will be even better once I get the stereo squared away and the new speakers installed. |

Rob,
XDM6400 by Dual from Fry's with bluetooth module detachable face plate plays music from my android phone by USB or by bluetooth, and charges at the same time plays music from my ipod by USB and charges at the same time. Also you can control the phone or the ipod from the tuner, you do not have to use the ipod or phone controls. Also shows the music etc on the phone or ipod.... |

intact front plastic targa top holders in the trunk placed along with the nice repops of the rear rubber holders by Mikey914(Mark) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Rain tray cleaned and ready to install once I get the proper hardware for it and the down tube funnels. Got a spare tire washer and hold down and now the spare is solidly in place in the front trunk. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif) Rewired my foglight/headlight switch so the fogs now come on with the parking lights and the headlights, not just the headlights. Reworked my rear deck lid latch pin so the trunk would not pop open over bumps...needed to square and redefine the little ledge on the pin.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif) Next up will be the carpets which should be here in the next day or two.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) While the seats are out for the carpet install I will do a little work on some of the vinyl. It is loose in a couple of spots so a little adhesive and it should be good until I find some better seats or get these rebuilt/upholstered. things are starting to be the way I want them overall.... It's nice getting all the little things sorted out.
My 914 is along the same path, getting very picky about little things on it which is NICE! Been driving it with top off for weeks now back and forth to work. The new SSI's produce massive heat in the mornings, fresh air fan works for the drive home etc. Tunes sound decent (Need better speakers). Just nice to get it, turn the key and drive it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Try getting a spray bottle of a product called "Folex" from a janitorial supply company called "Waxie" - they may have an office in your area, or you may have to order online. I've used it on office/commercial, home & auto carpets, but it's best to test on an area which won't be seen or an extra scrap of the same material before using it. |

By the way, you can get Folex at HomeDepot... Not any more! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) In our area here in SoCal at least - HD stopped carrying it in favor of some other off-brand (probably cheaper for them). They also stopped carrying Liquid Wrench which p.o.'s me! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |
