SO cool. I was on a V* quest for abit and absolutely would have purchased one if I had found the right car.

Could you knock off the euro"914-6-VW-Porsche" badge? I would think you could sell a pile of those. The current ones in the market are way over priced.

Again, great job. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

George should have a handle on those here very soon.

Yeah, George is doing those. =o) His will be gold... I wonder if he'll give me a good deal on Bovey's old one that he cut in two. Then I can do the aluminum ones.

So I ordered the 914-8 emblem, but would like to know if there is enough interest in a 918 emblem. I would probably take one of those too.

These will need to be hand finished with silicone carbide paper but first tape it down to a hard surface to work on it. Or taped to a board and put in a vibratory finisher with small media with abrasive media mixed in cast polyester plastic. This works great for this type of work. You do not want to bevel the backside. After you are done with the vibratory polishing you can put the part in acetone to remove the tape. Or cut it or heat it.

The factory parts are sanded after they are cast in white metal. I have looked my 914-6 VW Porsche unit and note the shrink marks from the casting plus I can see the bevels.

Paul; the 914-8 emblems are my starting point. They are helping me to learn the feeds and speeds and the pre-orders helped fund the aluminum, the end mills (I've already broken 3), and to get input.

When I finish this run of 914-8 emblems I'll be putting a bunch of options on my website and in a members vendor thread here. The 918 will be one of them. =o)

So far I've had quite a bit of input and great tips; and I appreciate all of the assistance in the learning process. There's a great group of guys here, that's for sure.

Now to find some silicone carbide paper. =o) I have more than one emblem that I've screwed up that I can try out a polishing technique.

burton73 made a great point about vibratory polishing, so much easier than doing it by hand. If you don't have one, you can put a make shift vibrator can together with, you guessed it, a paint can. Fill it with media, drop your part in it, duck tape a palm sander to the top and hang it from the ceiling by a rope. Plug it in and let it sit for a while (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I own one of those! I hate the stupid bolt in the middle that holds the lid on, gets in the way of longer pieces. Besides, $50 is a set of pads or over half a set of stainless brake lines. Priorities! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Bob, so do you want me to send the raw metal version to you? I can leave the 3m tape off of it for you to finish the way you'd like.

Please send me with tape on and if you would send me and extra piece of tape it would be great. If you material is on a roll you can stick it to wax paper. I think I will finish by hand with Silicone Carbide (Wet Dry) sand paper in different grits and a Dremel tool.

Thank you very much.

My wife took claim of me over the weekend; so today was a busy day with the emblems.

so update? Yes! I should be able to get the 914-8 emblems out tomorrow that are not on the polish list.

I'm still trying to figure out the posts for the one that is getting them.

The 914-6 order is waiting for the 2.7 to be drawn up and cut out.

I had a busy day today.

I'm working on cleaning these up and getting the rough edges off of them.

It seems as if everyone wants to try a different way of polishing theirs, so I will clean the rough edges and include a foot of 3m emblem adhesive with each one. It will be on wax paper, since it came in a roll.

(any objections; PM me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

Mike; yours is at the post office with my wife right now.

She also has the rest of the 914-8's that have been paid for; except for Karl's.

I am working on the pins for Karl's; trying to figure out how to do w/out screwing it up.

I left the adhesive tape off, and included it on a piece of wax paper. I would have applied it and cleaned it up, but again, you all have your own (great!) ideas on how you'd like to try polishing them.
If you ordered one of these and accidentally screw it up, PM me... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I'll cut the first run orders a heck of a deal on a second one, as a way of saying 'thank you' for being my first customers.

the first run of 914-8 emblems is done. =o)

More pictures, please! I'm very close to shelling out the money for this, just need that extra little bump to put me over the edge...

Here is another wooden one that I cut out, testing the multi layers gcode. The black one is the loaner for reference.

My new metal end-mill bits should be here soon to where I can cut some out of aluminum.

Did you hand code the G-code or 'cheat' and use software (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Steve, you see the screen shots earlier in the thread? that's bobCAD. that's my 'cheat' right there.

I had to go in and look at my gcode, though. I went over the lines to make sure I wouldn't break anymore bits. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

If it's a lot of trouble for you, don't spend any more time on it. I can mount it with adhesive instead.
