Here's another example of the amount of heat this car was exposed to. The engine lid seal turned into a chunk of brittle plastic and shattered and splintered as I tried to remove it. All the rubber has some amount of the same condition.

Yes, The match is right on with Acrylic Enamel. I haven't checked the $ 100.00 a pint urothane yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

I agree. I think people will be surprised when they see the color in person. My monitor makes the color look pink.


I don't know, I've seen a lot of that car in person and my eyes make it look pink. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Actually it will be a color that always looks different depending on light.

Its weird to see someone else working on that car.

The Pigments in Red paint are the most expensive out there. And the cheaper they, the more they will sun-fade.

Stick a MAACO $99 red painted car out in our Florida Sun for a while and it will be Raspberry in no time.

I bought a new tool today. I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a soda blaster. My goal is to strip the interior surfaces of the repaint. I am trying to leave the factory color or as much of it as I can anyway. I know I can paint over the factory color but I don't know what the second paint job is. It looks like a base/clear job. If it's an early base coat it will likely shrivel when painted over. I can strip the outside body panels in a day but the inside surfaces are harder to do. Often the prep work for a repaint is little more than a quick sand with a skuff pad. The soda blaster is working nicely. its doing a nice job but slow going.

As I was stripping things off the car I discovered the right fender had been replaced. This was done early enough in the cars life that the entire fender was done. Who ever did the work did a nice job with the exception of the brass they used to weld it on. It's lucky this car was a west coast car all it's life or the braising would have been the kiss of death. I will likely just sand blast the channel and the entire inside mounting surface where the fender was joined to the car. With proper metal conditioning, priming and seam sealer (which there is none of now...) the car will be unaffected by the repair. I was suprised to see the lack of rust where the fender was attached and the seam sealer was not replaced on the inside wheel house.

Ya, I'm sure some kind of early accident. Really not a big issue as the rust around the brass is minimal. By the time I clean it up it will out last the car.

Yes, The paint code is 98 This code covers a range of "special order Porsche colors"
We (the 914 people on world, narp, club, pelican) have only located three in this 911 color. I have two of the three cars known.

The soda was everywhere! I have a spot along side of my garage where I was blasting. The ground was white with soda. It rained and it all disappeared into the soil.

I worked on the trunk floor repair panel. I decided to cut out the holes for access caps to give the trunk a factory look. This is not nessesary as these are really only used for access for the factory spot welders.
