What's the hang up? I've disconnected the tie rods, steering rack, front and back torsion bar (A arms), and strut tower...
Why's it hanging there? |

Volkswagen used anti-gravity when they orignally installed it. You need to flip the car upside down and it will float off.

Is the steering shaft COMPLETELY disconnected or is the bolt just out ? That is typically where it becomes a PITA job. If the shaft is still in the locking collar, you will have to get it out. Then all will fall

QUOTE disconnected the tie rods, steering rack "Splain yourself Lucy" The 2 17mm bolts are off the rack? So, rack and crossbar are not connected? Or - What Scott is referring to, did you disconnect the steering shaft? If it's the shaft, he's spot on, they hang up with the angle. Otherwise it's just rusted on there. The crossbar sits on slight collars that those long screws screw into. Do a little creative prying. |

Just give it a whack with a hammer and it will fall out. Just make sure you are clear of everything when you do it. Body flex is holding it in place.
