For assistance to others Vin # 9140431095 orig engine # 6404638 Vin # 9140432567 orig engine # 6405714 Also I know of an anomaly near my car #1095; 9140431093 has orig. eng. 6404596 = 42 missing engine #s ! QUOTE = 42 missing engine #s ! The largest reportedly matching numbers deviation I've seen is: chassis 1029 with engine 4397 (early-ish COA photo) compare with chassis 938 with engine 4553 (armando's totaled six) Chassis VIN went up 100, but engine serial went down 150. I imagine they had some engines that didn't make the cut, and the cases went back into the shop to be reworked only to reappear later and be mated with a much later chassis. It seems there were a few in the 1000-1200 range that got lower engines. |

The above chart is only USA 901/38 engines.
Remember that the euro chassis VINs are in sequence with the US, but the engines have their own range, so as batches of euro destination cars came of the line, the USA engine serials would stop incrementing. I've done my best to only include kardex or COA documented VINs but that doesn't mean that these are 100% accurate. Transmissions on the other hand track pretty nearly with the chassis, with recorded deviation from the VIN by 20-30 serial numbers, or as few as 2 like both of the 6's I've owned having (1902 with trans 1904, and 2624 with trans 2626.) cheers, dug |

# 6420233 is currently for sale on ebay (141448523805)
Location: Concord, California starting @ USD 2,500 QUOTE Welcome. You are bidding on a 1972 Porsche 914-6 engine. This is the real deal and is one of the last 914-6 engines built. It still turns over and is complete with heads, Marelli distributor, Black plastic fan shroud, etc. The heads are dated 1972. This would be a great chance to return a 914-6 engine to your car, save as a spare, or built to your needs. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Buyers are to responsible for shipping. I have put 5 dollars for shipping charges just to cover the cost of the pallet, shrink wrap and straps. Please email me for a shipping quote. |

I was wondering if anyone has compiled a list of known VIN / Engine Numbers that are correct. One that you can really read,
meaning the numbers don't run over each other. Might help someone looking to buy a 6 to know if the engine in the car is at least in the range of what it should be.. Not exact by any means, but might help rule out numbers that are way out of sequence ? You can't always wait for a COA to confirm before buying, so this might be of some help ?? |

Hi Dug Here are the details of my car / I updated the world DB a few days ago as I hadn't checked the the engine # in my car & it wasn't recorded on the cars V5 registration document (pink slip?) Chassis 9140432315 & case number 6405509, which match the COA I recently received. It's a US spec car BTW Jon |

Not exact by any means, but might help rule out numbers that are way out of sequence ? You can't always wait for a COA to confirm before buying, so this might be of some help ?? Um... see my post on Aug 5th above:) This is exactly what I've done. Unfortunately, it does not really help verify that an engine is matching numbers. There are COA confirmed matching numbers that vary by more than 100 numbers from the projected line based on the data. So all you can really tell is that you MIGHT have the correct engine. There are chassis with much "earlier" engines, which would imply that some engines were reworked after getting a serial number. There are also chassis with much "later" engines which would imply that some chassis had problems and had to be reworked before being assigned and engine. My own car is a great example: VIN 9140431902 Engine 6405287 Trans 7501904 The line would project that I should have an engine number around 5200, with chassis both before and after mine with confirmed data points landing right on the projected line. Then the car only two after mine 1904 has an even higher engine number by 50 more. So that's a deviation of 130+. So, all the chart can do is give you a rough idea of where your engine should land. If you have an engine that is over 500 away from the line, it's probably wrong, but you can't be sure until you get the COA. cheers, dug |

Hi Johny, Non-stock is awesome! I have a 3.2SS engine going in my six, but I also don't mind having the original block on the shelf:) I have not seen #5211 appear while I've been tracking them since before 2008. What's your VIN? … Nevermind, found it in the VIN db, #1921, less than 20 from mine:) cheers, dug |
