any idea why the new relay wouldnt work then ?? ground?? Well, it could just be bad. But you mentioned that it is a new solid state type, from AA? Could you by chance show us a picture? In particular, who made it, and is it 4-lug or 3-lug? And if you don't mind, how much did it cost? Something in the deep recesses of my aging brain seem to recall a different flasher that was plug-compatible but didn't have the current relay feature of the correct one. Just a hunch. Jim |

Seems to be the right one, based on the Wittrin website at least. Jim |

Back on Nov 9, post #21, you mentioned that the hazard lights worked.
That proves that the relay works. If the relay worked for the hazard lights, the relay will work for turn signals and the relay is ok. It's the same function but enabled by a different switch. If hazard worked and turn signals didn't, it would appear to be related to your turn signal switch or wiring. What does and doesn't work right now? Sorry I haven't been too vigilant with your issue. |

turn signal, hazard lights marker lights all work now... the turn signal issue ended up being a loose wire in the connector for the turn signal switch.. the second time i poped off the connector to run my multimeter over the switch leads a wire poped out of the connecter on the wire harness... I secured it back in and voila !..
The only thing I'm not sure is working right now is the indicator lights on the tach... selecting either left or right on the turn signal switch flashes BOTH lights on the tach... The new relay I got aparently is a dud.. |

Both indicator lights coming on is common with the older relays.
One way to get the indicator lamps to work independently is to do the following: 1) go in the back of the tach, find the common wire to the indicators lamps; 2) disconnect this common wire and tape up the wire from the common connection to the relay. 3) Connect the common lugs from each turn signal and connect them to ground. Ground is easily found behind the tach as brown wires are ground and there should be a lug on the case of the tach which is ground. Be sure not to connect the wire to the relay to ground. This wire in 2) should be left unconnected and taped up so it will not touch anything. |

spoke my 1972 car has the problem of both directional indicator lights in the tach flashing together regardless of which direction I want to go. are you saying to connect the blue/white wires to ground? This problem is caused by a failure of the secondary relay contact in the flasher. You can replace the flasher or make the change to the wires. If you change the wires, yes, connect the common connection of the lamps to ground. Cut and tape the blue/white wire to the relay. Then reverse the other wires on the lamps. Left wire to the right lamp and right wire to the left lamp. I made this change to the flasher in my '71. |
