Absolutely fantastic!
You made it very easy for me to decide what to do with mine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Is it possible to convert tail shift to side shift? Same casing? |

Absolutely fantastic! You made it very easy for me to decide what to do with mine (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Is it possible to convert tail shift to side shift? Same casing? Thanks! All 914 901's are virtually the same but just with different shifter mechanisms. I used the 914-6 trans and took the shift mechanism form a 1974 trans. It fit perfectly. I can't take all the credit, Eddie Sanches (Eddie's Auto, Indio CA) is a VW expert and built it for me. He does VW trans all the time and I gave him 3 parts trans, the 914-6 trans, all new synchros, new first and fifth, new bearings/seals, the Rennshift linkage, billet aluminum intermediate plate and the 901 factory manual and said, "here! Can you do this?!!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) It's perfect now! It shifts like it's in a gate! Very nice! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Do you have any pics of the final install of the oil cooler and lines in the front trunk you would be willing to share? Thanks. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i243.photobucket.com-8067-1296301069.1.jpg) |

Fantastic! You may be broke now but you'll still be enjoying that car long after the debts it created are gone. Great looking car. Congrats. What wheels and spacers are you using? |

Thanks! I just turned over the 300 mile mark and counting. It runs and drives almost perfectly. I have just needed to adjust the clutch and throttle cables... now smooth, powerful, and comfortable. I can't wait to get her out on the track. I'm heading out to Willow Springs this afternoon to show off... not race quite yet. My newly recovered backpad just came in so the interior is 99% done. Dashface will be covered in basket weave this week. |

Dean is a friend and is helping me with my restoration. After Cars & Coffee he came by my house today and we took the Zombie for a ride.........Y I K E S !!!!!! I've been in fast cars before but nothing compares to this monster!!! The feel, the power, the exhaust note....everything is just right!!! I can't imagine that there are many cars out there that can even come close to the performance and handling if this car.
My hat is off to Dean for having a vision of what he wanted and not straying from it or letting others opinion sway him in anyway. We all have to realize that there are a million different ways one can change these cars, from 2.0 to 3.6, from carbs to F.I., from steel flares to fiberglass flares to no flares, from 4 lugs to 5 lugs, then the rims... 15", 16", 17"....and so on. I guess what I'm trying to say is.....MAKE YOUR CAR YOUR OWN.... the way YOU want it...put on it what YOU want and what YOU can afford.....at the end of the day it's still going to be a bitchin car to YOU and that's what counts!!! Regardless if it's a tiny little totally stock 73hp, 1.7 to a monster 300 hp 911 engine.....Just have fun......I sure as hell am!!!.......OK, I'll step down now. I'm confused. Post #27- one picture shows a rusty yellow car with a 6 and another pic shows a silver car that just got flares welded on but still needs bodywork and paint? Are they the same car?

I'm about to install a Mazda cooler in mine which is a bit larger (24x4) so I am trying to get some ideas to mount it. You car looks great, hope you are enjoying it. |

It's a long story... there are many hours and lots of welding and decades between the gold pictures and the silver pictures. I wish I had more in between pictures. I didn't take the gold pictures those are from years before I got it. |

Just was curious about the pics but I understand these projects can take some time. |
