Trying to put my inboard CV joint back on the splined end of the axle with everything in the car. I got it about 1/8" onto the spline, and now it seems to be calling for some tapping with a hammer to get it on the rest of the way. However, i have no clearance to swing a hammer, and the tranny is in the way of a long punch.
Anyone got a trick for doing this? |

Take it out and inspect the splines. Inspect the hub. Clean with sandpaper and a knife if gummed up or dirty. It should slide in and out fairly easy, a little forcing may be necessary, but no hammer IIRC.
