How do I test to see if temp sending unit is bad and to check if the console gauge is bad.

or use a volt meter, both work on resistance

not too sure of the values, if you do a search for Ander's 914 D-jet website, he should have the ohm values and range

assuming you want to test the oil temp sender, remove the sender, and leave it attached under the car. Attach a terst lead tot he sender, and ground it to the engine

Get a camp stove, or hot plate, or electric coffe pot and boil water in a pot under the car (raise the car), with grounder sender in the pot, you should see the gage go to 212F if you are at sea level. Adjust the calibration for high altitude if need be.

Alternate method if no camp stove or hot plate would be to boil water on your house stove (bigger pot the better, want big thermal mass) and bring it out to the sender. have a good thermometer in the hot water, and place the grounder sender in it. after a minute or so the temps shouild be in equalibriium (sender to the thermometer) and see were the gage pointer goes,and note temp on thermometer.

If gage does not read correctly, cheack all electric connections. assure you have correct part number on sender for the gage.
